About the department



The Department of Field Crop Sciences was established in 2009 AD, two years after the establishment of Al-Muthanna University. It is one of the main scientific departments in the College of Agriculture, Al-Muthanna University. Its importance stems from hard scientific work in order to graduate scientific competencies equipped with the latest information and practical and intellectual arts that qualify them to work effectively in their field of specialization, conduct research and practice Occupations related to the use of biotechnologies in the field of cultivation, marketing and processing of various field crops. The department also adopts the conduct of applied scientific research in the previous fields and cooperation with various scientific bodies to solve agricultural problems in Muthanna Governorate in particular and Iraq in general. In 2013, the first batch graduated with a major in Field Crop Science

Rehabilitation and furnishing of scientific laboratories with basic devices and equipment.
Expansion of the department building to accommodate faculty offices, laboratories, department library and discussion hall.
Building a detailed information base on the department’s staff, their activities, and their products, and linking them to the international information network.
Establishing specialized research units that seek to develop solutions to the problems of field crop production through integrated research teams.
Rehabilitation and development of the fields of the field crops department, as it facilitates the process of scientific research.


Department goals

 


1 . Rehabilitation and preparation of agricultural engineers in the field of field crop science on scientific basis.
Teaching and enabling students of the methods and methods of scientific research related to their specialization and their applications in a way that contributes to the process of agricultural development.
2 . Preparing studies related to the development of the production of cultivation of various field crops.
Carrying out field visits to agricultural fields and holding rehabilitation and training courses for farmers and workers in the relevant agricultural sector in order to achieve interdependence between the department, the college and the community, and contribute to serving the agricultural environment.
3 . Organizing scientific seminars and seminars, issuing the scientific journal, and participating in scientific conferences and seminars by presenting research and studies.
4 . Exchanging experiences, visits, academic programs and scientific publications, and conducting joint research with the faculties of agriculture and other research and scientific centers and institutions in Iraq and in the Arab world and abroad.
5 . Developing study programs and linking theory with practice in the field of crop cultivation in the province and the country in general, benefiting from the experiences of others, and introducing new agricultural sciences and knowledge related to the curricula to raise the scientific competence of students.
5 . Work as a specialized scientific institution to provide technical and specialized studies and consultations for various relevant public, private and mixed sectors.
Establishing postgraduate studies in the college and sending abroad to obtain master’s and doctoral degrees.
